Missions Moments

    Bible Challenge

A total of 204 books of the Bible were read in this quarter, which includes April, May and June. June showed a large increase in reading with a total of 79 books being read, which included every book in the Bible.

For each book read, Missions contributes two dollars toward the purchase of Bibles, so for this quarter the total will be $408. This year, Missions will be donating all of the proceeds from your Bible reading to purchase Military BibleSticks. The cost of each BibleStick is $25 and will allow us to purchase 16 BibleSticks with $400 from this quarter.

The Military BibleStick project is an outreach of Faith Comes By Hearing, the world's largest Audio Bible ministry. The Military BibleStick Mission is to get God's Word in audio to every Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Coast Guardsman and Marine that requests a BibleStick of their very own.

The Military BibleStick is a digital audio player that is pre-loaded with a dramatized recording of the entire New Testament and select chapters of Psalms.  About 3.5 inches long and less than an inch thick, these pocket-sized Audio Bibles are field-friendly with a low-key design which reduces visibility for use in low-light situations. The BibleSticks are only available to servicemen through active duty military chaplains.

Chaplains from every branch of the military are flooding Faith Comes By Hearing with requests. Over 685,000 of these Audio Bibles are now in the field and more than 1,600 chaplains have used Military BibleSticks in pre-deployment briefings, counseling sessions, Bible studies, weekly chapels and other spiritual services.

More information is available on the Mission Table. There is a Military Biblestick available on the table, so you can listen. Be sure to pick up a bookmark, so you can read your bible and help service men and women have access to the bible no matter where they are.

    Missions Moment
    February 21, 2016

Item #1 - There is a young man of our congregation, Stephen Goodwin, who currently attends Kentucky Christian University, studying to prepare himself for Christian service. As he is a sort of “Timothy” of New Hope, we are all keenly interested in his progress and education. University being the major expense that it is, the Missions Committee would like your permission to assist Stephen in his tuition and room and board expenses by offering him a one-time gift of $1,750.

Item #2 - Ends of the Earth Cycling is a local group that does a ministry within a ministry. Various groups of cyclists take 300-500 mile rides in various locals across the United States, ministering to each other and to those they encounter along the way. Meanwhile, they also raise money to fund youth ministry in various other places in the world. On March 5th, the Missions Committee would like to invite any of you who would like to come out, to help host a pitstop table, with refreshment, prayer and fellowship offered to the cyclists, for their upcoming Key West bike ride.

If you are interested, we are gathering on Saturday, March 5th at 8:45 at the grassy area on Treeline near Summit Church (by FGCU). We are going to be there until approximately 1:00, as several different groups of cyclists and runners pass through, but you don’t have to stay the whole time if you are unable. Please contact Mike or Tracie Walker at 239-693-2527 if you are interested in being a part of this.

Item #3 - New Hope attends regular fellowships at FGCU with the kids of Impact Campus Ministries. In fact, our next one is on Wednesday, March 16th. If you would like to go out there with us to meet the students, please be at New Hope by 6 o’clock to ride to the college with us.

While there, we would like to invite the Impact students to a home-cooked dinner and fellowship at New Hope on Sunday, April 10th at 5:30 p.m. We want to feed them, love on them, prayer with them, and give them a chance to meet the college-age kids that meet here already on Sunday evenings.

If you can cook something, we will have a sign-up sheet for home-cooked food so that we can balance things out a bit, if need be. The church will provide the meat; we’d like to ask you to bring your favorite side dish, salad, or dessert.  Also, we’d like to invite some of you to come and eat with the students, get to know them, and let them know we support and pray for them. They are a great bunch of kids, and once you meet them, you’ll see why we are so proud of them all.
