Dan & Toni Underwood
The first “full-time” mission initiative of Mission Journeys began in June, 2010, when Dan & Toni Underwood arrived in the Central American country of Belize, heading up a new ministry initiative called the Barnabas Project.
It was not the conventional way to the mission field as Dan & Toni drove a RV (purchased in April, 2010) through Mexico to Belize. They used the RV as their home and base of operations for nearly three years.
Since 2010, the Underwoods have lived in Belize year-round, helping nationals in ministry working with a few existing churches they have been in contact with since 2009. They began serving as hosts for our short-term mission teams in 2011.
Through our partnership, the Underwoods have been able to meet the physical, emotional and spiritual needs of many disadvantaged people, with an emphasis on helping “at risk” kids. They have served as a point of connection for various mission teams looking for a place to serve.
In June, 2013, a ministry center was opened outside the capital city of Belmopan with the help of US contributors and a mission team from Centerburg (OH) Church of Christ. The ministry center will serve as a base of operations for Dan & Toni as they look to minister in different parts of the country.
Dan brings over 30 years of ministry experience with him into this project. He commented, “The Lord has opened a door of effective ministry for Toni and me in Central America. We have prayed about our personal involvement in missions for years, and we believe the Lord has – right now – provided us with a fantastic opportunity to share Jesus and show His love to the people of Belize.”
